13 Keys to a Healthy Diet

June 11th, 2008 by siewkhian

1. Eat plenty of high-fiber foods — that is, fruits, vegetables, beans, and whole grains. These are the "good" carbohydrates — nutritious, filling, and relatively low in calories. They should supply the 20 to 30 grams of dietary fiber you need each day, which slows the absorption of carbohydrates, so there’s less effect on insulin and blood sugar, and provides other health benefits as well. Such foods also provide important vitamins, minerals, and phytochemicals (plant chemicals essential to good health).

2. Make sure to include green, orange, and yellow fruits and vegetables — such as broccoli, carrots, cantaloupe, and citrus fruits. The antioxidants and other nutrients in these foods may help protect against developing certain types of cancer and other diseases. Eat five or more servings a day.

3. Limit your intake of sugary foods, refined-grain products such as white bread, and salty snack foods. Sugar, our No.1 additive, is added to a vast array of foods. Just one daily 12-ounce can of soda (160 calories) can add up to 16 pounds over the course of a year. Many sugary foods are also high in fat, so they’re calorie-dense.

4. Cut down on animal fat. It’s rich in saturated fat, which boosts blood cholesterol levels and has other adverse health effects. Choose lean meats, skinless poultry, and nonfat or low-fat or nonfat dairy products.

5. Cut way down on trans fats, supplied by hydrogenated vegetable oils used in most processed foods in the supermarket and in many fast foods. Use olive oil instead.

6. Eat more fish and nuts, which contain healthy unsaturated fats. Substitute olive or canola oil for butter or stick margarine.

7. Keep portions moderate, especially of high-calorie foods. In recent years serving sizes have ballooned, particularly in restaurants. Choose a starter instead of an entrée, split a dish with a friend, and don’t order supersized anything.

8. Keep your cholesterol intake below 300 milligrams per day. Cholesterol is found only in animal products, such as meats, poultry, and dairy products. And when you eat eggs, eat the whole egg (whites and yolks). Because egg yolks contain Lecithine, which will bring down your cholesterol and fat.

9. Eat a variety of foods. Don’t try to fill your nutrient requirements by eating the same foods day in, day out. It is possible that not every essential nutrient has been identified, and so eating a wide assortment of foods helps to ensure that you will get all the necessary nutrients. In addition, this will limit your exposure to any pesticides or toxic substances that may be present in one particular food.

10. Maintain an adequate calcium intake. Calcium is essential for strong bones and teeth. Get your calcium from low-fat sources, such as skim milk and low-fat yogurt. If you can’t get the optimal amount from foods, take natural supplements.

11. Try to get your vitamins and minerals from 100% organic foods. Else you may consume 100% organic natural supplements, not synthetic supplements. Synthetic supplements from pharmacy (and even from your doctors) cannot substitute for a healthy diet, which supplies nutrients and other compounds besides vitamins and minerals. Natural supplements are just like foods, which also provide the "synergy" that many nutrients require to be efficiently used in the body.

12. Maintain a desirable weight. Balance energy (calorie) intake with energy output. Exercise and other physical activity are essential.

13. If you drink alcohol, do so in moderation. That is one drink a day for women, two a day for men. A drink is defined as 12 ounces of beer, 4 ounces of wine, or 1.5 ounces of 80-proof spirits. Excess alcohol consumption leads to a variety of health problems. And alcoholic beverages can add many calories to your diet without supplying nutrients.

What is work?

March 25th, 2008 by siewkhian

"Work is good only if it leads the worker to freedom, reward, recognition, and hope. Therefore, if our work is not satisfying (financially, spiritually, psychologically), we need to end that work as quickly as we can, and begin work that is."

What do you want to do in your life? [2]

January 15th, 2008 by siewkhian

Most of us live defensively. Every morning we get up without a goal and
wonder why we go to bed that night with nothing accomplished.
Life
becomes a kind of obedient drudgery. We do what our parents demand,
what our teachers assign, what our boss orders, what our family or
friends expect of us, and what the church or government requires. We
let law determine our morality and tax credits limit our charitable
giving.

Have you ever think: What do you want to be? And what do you want to do?

It’s your life. The clock is ticking. The seconds are disappearing even
as you read. Stop. Grab some paper and a pen. Write at the top of the
page:
1. What are my life goals?
2. What kind of person do I want to be?
3. What
exciting, fulfilling, profitable things do I want to do during my short
span on planet Earth?
4. What am I doing to accomplish those goals today,
in the next week, the next month or year?

Do it! Really. Stop right now and spend a few minutes thinking about
the goals that direct your life. Write them down. But don’t put away
that pen or pencil. Indulge me one more time. Look over your list and
circle the most important goal on the page. Read it to yourself out
loud. Then ask yourself this question: What am I doing to reach that
goal today?
If you aren’t sure, make it up! Now, don’t rest until you
have taken at least one short step today in the direction of reaching
this most important goal in your life.

What do you want to do in your life? [1]

January 14th, 2008 by siewkhian

Whether you want to be the first woman president or just have an
evening by yourself now and then, the goals you set will make or break
your future
.

Remember, it’s only the beginning to say, "I want to be something more"
or "I want to do something better!" The American author Ben Sweetland
wrote, "Success is a journey, not a destination." Dreaming is the first
step of a lifelong trek away from mediocrity and failure, toward
accomplishment and a sense of fulfillment and self-worth.
And it’s
compassionate capitalism that helps make that journey possible.

Capitalism is not great because it makes millions for a handful of
people. It’s because it help millions of people to be what they want to
be
. That’s the issue behind Credo 3. What do you want to be?

If Credo 1 proclaims that we are created to dream great dreams, and if
Credo 2 acknowledges that too many of us are not seeing those dreams
come true, then Credo 3 raises the important question: "How?" If our
dreams have been derailed, how do we get them back on the right track
again?

Norman Vincent Peale once said, "Change your thoughts and you change
your world." If we don’t find ourselves doing or becoming all we dream,
then what changes should we make in our thinking to see those dreams
come true?

Too many of us have fuzzy dreams. We don’t know where we are going, so
why should we be surprised when we don’t get there?
Alfred North
Whitehead wrote, "We think in generalities, but we live in detail." It
isn’t enough to have pie-in-the-sky dreams. We have to get specific.
How can you make your dreams more specific?

The 6Q and 6F of Good Career.

December 28th, 2007 by siewkhian

It’s the end of another year.

I believe there’s quite a number of friends trying to seek for a better job out there. So, here you go! Ask yourself these questions, think twice, and answer honestly to yourself.

Q1: Are you satisfied with your current income?
Q2: Does your boss treat you well?
Q3: Does your job required creativity? Can it show your talent?
Q4: Look at those seniors in your field, what are they doing now? Would you want to
       be like that too in the future?
Q5: Does your job create any harms to your health?
Q6: Is your job meaningful?

If any of the above is negative or so-so, you should seek for a better opportunity. Don’t be afraid of changes for good, and don’t be so stupid, you know you won’t be paid for being loyal.
___

After years of searching, unbelievably, i have found a career that offering me the 6F. This is what we called, a definition of a good career.

F1: Freedom (of time, financial & spiritual)
F2: Financial Security (for more than a life time)
F3: Fortune
F4: Fun
F5: Family
F6: Friends

A good career offering you more than just a good job, it gives you a good life.
Don’t waste your time/life, you deserve all these. Think seriously, and take action.

December 12th, 2007 by siewkhian

他让每个人出生时都不会ABC,但他给了我们一双眼睛,去识字去求取知识;
他让每个人出生时都不会说话,但他给了我们一张嘴,去微笑去结识朋友;
他让每个人出生时都不会行走,但他给了我们一双腿,去旅行去看遍整个世界;

December 6th, 2007 by siewkhian

This is Your Future.

November 21st, 2007 by siewkhian

于是,打工一族就只会处理工事;
于是,专业人士就只会各自的专业;
于是,老板就永远只会打理自己的生意;

于是,打工一族永远是月光族(每月用光光);
于是,专业人士永远都和老板斤斤计较(薪水和假期不够多);
于是,老板就永远被自己的生意捆绑着(更惨,永远没有假期);
